Lotus by TL Smith

Title: Lotus
Author: TL Smith
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: July 27
To break a heart is easy.
All you have to do is reach in, wrap your blood covered hands around it, and pull.
This happened to me.
Two hands, both red as my hair, did this exact thing.
Tore it away like it wasn’t made for me.
Maybe it was his to take?
Because years on, with those same blood red hands, he still has it.
In his hands.
And he won’t give it back.
But the real question is, do I want it back.
He is dangerous, uncontrollable, and downright sexy.

I fell for it all, but in the end, he didn’t catch me he let me fall.

Lotus’ eyes were red, her hands bunched into fists. Blood covered my clothes. She looked me up and down then demanded to know how the blood got there—she wanted answers. Answers I couldn’t give her, they weren’t mine to give.
Walking away, I heard a thump. The noise was loud, so deafening, it echoed around this quiet house. Walking back to her, I noticed she was on the floor. Lotus’ head was down, and there was a mass of curls covering her face. She also had her hands tucked under her stomach.
What was she doing?
Was she okay?
I walked over to touch her, to make sure she was all right. The moment my blood-stained hand touched her, she stood, and moved away quickly from my grasp. Then Lotus stared at me, black mascara streaked like rivers down her cheeks, but she no longer shed tears.
Lotus straightened, placing her hands at her sides and both feet in line. Her mask came up, and she was going to hide from me. I knew it. She had done this before and I hated it. It destroyed me every time she did it. Like she was trying to take something from me, that wasn’t even mine to begin with.
I wanted all of Lotus, and, most of the time, I had all of her.
Was it unfair I never told her certain things? Maybe it was.
It was for her own good, though. To protect her.
Lotus’ breathing grew harder. I listened, and it became as loud as a train that rushes through the station at peak hour.
Her mass of curls flowed down over her shoulders, and I wanted to run my fingers through them, the same hands that were now covered in blood.
Looking down and turning my hands over, I realized I needed to wash them. When I left, my hands were covered, but somehow, they have become drenched in blood. At the time, all I knew was I needed to get back to her, so I had no time to clean them—I should have made time—and now I know better.
Looking up again, I noticed Lotus’ mask was fully in position. I wouldn’t be able to break it. Now was not the time. But how could you do that to the love of your life?
She was everything.
She was my everything.
We were the best lovers.
Then we turned.
To the scorned lovers we were now.
There was no denying it, our love could light up a fire unlike any others. But, our love could also scorch everything it touched. The highs were high, so unimaginably fucking high, like jumping from a plane—the adrenaline, the rush—it would sear through my veins.
Then the lows—mean, evil, hate. We didn’t hit a low like some did when they had problems. No, we scorned each other in every possible way to make the other feel as wretched as they could. The whole thing turned into some sort of twisted game.
Who could love the hardest?
Then, who could make you fall the hardest?
Sometimes I thought it was me—that was until today—now I believed it may have been her who fell the hardest.
Maybe she was better at hiding it than me. Because of the look in her eyes. How her green eyes turned a shade darker, her lips lost their color, and her hands fell loosely by her sides.
She listened—I thought she understood.
Maybe she didn’t?
She must have, though, because she walked out taking all the highs and lows with her.
And my fucking soul as well.
That was the problem with loving someone so hard, so fast, so uncontrollably. It was bound to fuck with you. Screw you over, and tear your soul to shreds.
Lotus Vein was my high, but she was also my low.
Plus, she was everything in-between.

Dating the Billionaire by Poppy Dunne

Title: Dating the Billionaire
Author: Poppy Dunne
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: July 12, 2017

I'm Dahlia Rossi, dating coach extraordinaire. I know how to land you
the man of your dreams. Follow my rules, you'll meet the love of your life and
have a gorgeous destination wedding in French Polynesia. Okay, that last one
happened just the one time. But my rules work every time. I
guarantee it.

1. The man makes the first move. Seems unfair? Life's unfair.

2. Never have sex on the first date. No, not even oral. And hands above the
table, please.

3. Play hard to get, but don't make it too hard.

Solid rules, right? I thought they were. But then I met Jack Carraway,
an impossibly sexy, frustratingly unpredictable billionaire, and broke them
all. Everywhere. In an elevator. On a balcony. Beneath a
gazebo, of all places.

Whether I like it or not (spoiler alert: I like it!), Jack is taking me on wild
adventure and we're writing a whole new set of rules. Like, always reserve your
matching Harry Potter costumes a week in advance; wrestling swans is not as
easy as it looks; and sometimes, the man of your dreams pops up in the most
unlikely of places and has a really big...boat.

After years of watching couples find love, it may be my turn. But is
this spontaneous playboy the real thing, or just a fun detour around my
predictable life? All this time I've been following my own rules and going to
sleep alone, with nothing but my second slice of princess cake to keep me

But the more time I spend with Jack, the more I learn that
rules...they're meant to be broken.

In love there's only one rule: there are no rules.

And then I

I lead her

We go up to

I tie her

“Why are you so nervous?” I ask Jordan. We’re sitting in Smith’s bar. The table is
elaborately set for a nice dinner, our glasses are full of expensive alcohol,
and our cocks are happy. Why does he look like shit is about to hit the fan?
She had a good time,” I say, sipping my brandy.

“Yeah,” Jordan says. His eyes are glued to the elevator doors, just waiting for her to
come downstairs. “But it was sneaky, ya know?”

“What was sneaky about it?”

He shoots me a look that says, Come on.

“She gave in, Jordan. We didn’t make her do anything.”

“Right.” He sighs. “But you’re what, just pretending we didn’t have that conversation this
morning? You know, the one where you said, ‘I’m gonna fuck with her head so
bad, she’ll spin like The Exorcist?’”

“It was a
joke.” I laugh. “All we did was make her feel good tonight. She loved every
fucking minute of it. Even when I choked her with my cock. She couldn’t get

because she was drunk on your dick at the time, Bric. But that feeling is gonna
wear off and she’s gonna run the entire night through her head, and then—”

“Then she’s
gonna realize we know what the fuck we’re doing. That’s all.”

“No,” he
says. “She’s gonna realize you’re just playing with her emotions. Like you do
with every fucking woman you’ve ever been with.”

“So then
she’s gonna up her game, Bric. And this is gonna turn into a mind-fuck
shit-fest. I like her,” he says. “Maybe more than like her, OK? I don’t want
her thinking I’m like you.”

“You are
like me,” I say, getting pissed off. Why the fuck is he sharing her with me if
he likes her so much?

But I don’t
ask that question.

Because I
like her too. Just not in the same way.

Jordan says.

“See what?”
I ask

fucking evil grin you’ve got on your face. I know you well enough, Bricman.
Well enough to see the Machiavellian wheels turning inside your head. Do not
play with her emotions.”

“Why?” I
ask, my temper rising. “Is she some kind of fragile flower?”

But then I
realize this intrigues me.

“Stop it,”
Jordan says. “She’s not a puzzle, OK?”

“Then why
are we even playing?”

He huffs
out some air. Runs his fingers through his still-wet hair. “Because she’s not…”
He trails off.

“She’s not
what?” I ask. What the fuck is wrong with him tonight?

“She’s not
my type.”

“OK,” I
say, not really understanding.

“I mean I’m
not really her type.”

“Hmm,” I
say. “Do you love her?”

“No,” he
says. “Definitely not. But I like her. I could see myself playing with her for
a long time. And if you fuck it up, that won’t happen. You, of all people,
understand how fucking hard it is to get a girl you can trust in this game. One
who just gets you, ya know? We get each other, Bric. I realize it’s only been a
few weeks, but we know each other. I just like her. And we have an
understanding. I get to boss her around and be a dick, but she knows I’m not a
dick, right? She knows I’ll show up the next day and treat her nice and give
her a gift. She knows I’m just playing. We’re playing.”

“It’s a
game. Same as this,” I say.

“Dude, come
on,” he says, almost fully exasperated now. “You are a sick motherfucker, OK?
You know this, right?”

“Then why
am I even here?”

we’re good together, ya know. Not great. Yet,” he adds. “Not what you had with
Smith and Quin, obviously. But we understand each other. We work well as a
team. She liked that up there.”

“So what’s
the problem?”

problem is you’re in a weird place right now and I’m afraid you’re gonna take
it out on Nadia. Don’t do that, OK?” He stares at me. “Just be…”

“Just be
your back-up?” I ask, huffing out a laugh.

He shrugs.
But that’s it. That’s what he wants. Don’t overpower him. Don’t take her away
from him. Don’t make her rethink her strategy. Just help him keep her.

It takes me
a minute to decide if I’m angry or not.

I decide
I’m not. I don’t give two fucks about this Nadia girl. And my goal really was
to break her. So I shrug. “Fine,” I say. “You want a wingman. Fine. I’ll help
you out, Jordan. But when I need a favor, I’ll expect the same in return.”
